And if you allow yourself to be overcome with stress and anxiety, there could be negative health issues. It seems like a simple headache or cold, but it could have been prevented by keeping your stress level low. Exposure to stress over a long period of time can lead to high blood pressure, a leading cause of heart attack and strokes. 

To keep holiday stress at a minimum, try these tips:

Avoid Stress

  • Surround yourself with positive, uplifting people.
  • Take control of your environment; don't let your environment control you.
  • Look at your to-do list and distinguish between the "shoulds" and the "musts."

Change your Outlook

  • Focus on the positive.
  • Learn to forgive.
  • Be more assertive and say no when necessary.
  • Stop setting yourself up for failure. Understand that nothing is perfect.

Recharge your Batteries

  • Go for a walk and spend time outside.
  • Play with your pet.
  • Get a massage or take a long bath.
  • Write in your journal.

Create a Healthier Lifestyle

  • Exercise regularly.
  • Consume a healthy diet.
  • Reduce caffeine and sugar.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
