With a Prayerful Mind
With the madness of our lives, each day we need to reorient ourselves to God, to open our spirits and our senses to the reality of his presence. When my day is full and I know I won’t have time for spiritual reflection, I pause before I get out of bed in the morning and invite God into my day. I ask my Creator to help me see his presence in the ordinary. It never fails. When I intentionally set aside even a little time to meditate and quiet myself from all the distractions and pressures of life, I become aware of God’s presence in our daily world.
How do we recognize Divine presence throughout the day? “God uses a million means to communicate with us, including circumstances, friends, enemies, nature, literature and our conscience,” says Chris Blake, author of Searching for a God to Love. Our challenge in our hurried lives is to slow down long enough to recognize it.
Prayer unites our minds, bodies, and spirits. The good news is that you don’t have to be a spiritual guru to pray. Very simply, prayer is relinquishing your greatest concerns to the Maker of the Universe. It’s a time to honestly talk with God about your hopes, your fears, your desires, and your needs. It’s about communicating the reflections, emotions, and attitudes that lie closest to your heart. It’s through prayers that you begin to experience the difference between believing in and knowing God.
