The Fiber Factor

Today’s television commercials are constantly heralding “high in fiber.” But if you watch closely, many of the products promoted are of “artificial fiber content. The reality is that to live a long and healthy life, we don’t need modern day artificial – we need the original fast foods. 

Everyone knows the Garden of Eden was described as the Mecca of enjoyment and blessing – with lush gardens and fresh fruits and vegetables. Lest we be reminded that those original fast foods are filled with the combination of good eating that we need. 

High fiber foods include beans, vegetables, products from wheat, fruits and nuts…and are beneficial for lowering cholesterol concentrations, improving digestion and have proven to provide the lowest risk of cancers. 

1.1 million public school children in New York City were introduced to a more wholesome, healthy diet including fruits and vegetables. After just one year, 1 16% increase in academic performance and a 41% decrease in the number of learning-disabled children were reported.

And this study may convince you that life would be more pleasant for all of us if everyone understood the benefits of fruits and vegetables. In a study of 8.000 teenagers at nine juvenile correctional facilities, researchers arranged to have diets high in sugar and other refined carbohydrates replaced with diets high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. During the year in which the diets were changed, violence and antisocial incidents decreased by almost half!
